Scottie Scheffler, Ladies & Gentlemen
PGA
World #1, Scottie Scheffler, has won the first event of the 2026 FedEx Playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Scheffler had a dominant victory this past weekend, finishing the tournament at -17, 8 shots ahead of the runner-up, Si Woo Kim, who finished at -9. Scheffler shot a R1 of 68 (-2), R2 of 61 (-9), R3 of 68 (-2), and a Sunday final round of 66 (-4). This becomes Scheffler's 21st PGA victory of his career, making him the 3rd youngest player ever on the PGA Tour to reach this milestone, behind only the great Tiger Woods and the great Jack Nicklaus. Scheffler, who turned 30 about 2 months ago, now has 21 PGA Tour victories and 4 Major Championships. After a $3.6 million payday, Scheffler's career earnings are now up to $119,964,411, only $1 million shy of the highest-earning player in PGA Tour history (Tiger Woods, $120,999,166). With a solo 3rd-place (or better) finish this weekend at the BMW Championship, Scheffler can take home at least $1,360,000 and surpass Woods to become the highest career earner. The BMW Championship kicks off today, Thursday, August 20th, at Bellerive Golf Course in St. Louis, Missouri, with the top 50 in the FedEx Cup Standings taking the field, and the purse remaining at $20,000,000. Notable names that are now out of the Playoffs include Jordan Spieth (52nd), Max Homa (53rd), Harris English (54th), Corey Conners (59th), Shane Lowry (62nd), and Nick Taylor (63rd). After this weekend, the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings will go on to the final event of the playoffs, the Tour Championship, which takes place next weekend, August 27th-30th. The purse moves up to $40,000,000, with the winner taking home $10,000,000. Scottie Scheffler heads into the weekend as a heavy betting favourite to win, sitting at +295.
NFL
NFL preseason is underway, and the injuries are already beginning to stack up. Rookie running back Jeremiyah Love of the Arizona Cardinals suffered a high-ankle sprain in his NFL debut. Love caught a pass and was tackled shortly after by Tommy Eichenberg of the Las Vegas Raiders, who rolled Love to the ground but caught his foot underneath him as Love’s body went over the top side. The 3rd overall pick is expected to recover in 2-6 weeks, depending on the severity of the injury. Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur confirmed in an interview that Love will not need surgery for the injury. The Cardinals begin week 1 on September 13th against the Los Angeles Chargers, giving Love just over 3 weeks to heal up and return. His availability for the season opener is in question. Breece Hall, the New York Jets' number 1 running back, left practice Monday morning with a groin strain. The workhorse running back is expected to miss 2-3 weeks but be ready to go for Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans. Marcus Mariota, the backup quarterback for the Washington Commanders, suffered an MCL sprain in their first preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Mariota has been ruled out for the remainder of preseason, but head coach Dan Quinn stated he’s optimistic that Mariota will be ready for Week 1. Kyle Monangai, second-year running back of the Chicago Bears, is expected to miss “multiple weeks” due to a hyperextended right knee suffered during practice. The MRI revealed a “positive diagnosis” in comparison to what the Bears staff were expecting, but Monangai’s complete recovery timeline is still unknown. Chicago faces the Carolina Panthers in week 1 on September 13th. New Orleans Saints Rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson suffered a hamstring injury that could sideline him for up to 2 months. The number 8 overall pick of this year's draft is in doubt to suit up for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions after being injured during a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The rookie has been diagnosed with a grade 2 hamstring strain, and his complete recovery timeline is still uncertain. Jamal Adams, linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings, left the first preseason matchup with a season-ending knee injury. Adams is heading into his 10th NFL season, his first with the Vikings, but has been diagnosed with a torn right quadriceps, head coach Kevin O’Connell stated in an interview. Soon to turn 31 and battling injuries for the last 4 years, Jamal Adams' career may never be the same after this injury. It is uncertain whether he will return next season.
Week 1 of the NFL season kicks off in 3 weeks, on September 9th!
Formula 1
The Dutch GP takes place this Sunday, August 23rd, beginning at 6:00 AM PST. This will be the 12th race of the 2026 Formula 1 season, marking the halfway point. Mercedes are well out in front of the battle for the Constructors’ Championship (Combined drivers' points/team title), sitting at 379 team points, while Ferrari is in 2nd place, at 307 points, and McLaren is in 3rd with 220 points. 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli leads the Drivers’ Championship race (Individual points/title) with 219 points, with the veteran, Lewis Hamilton, in 2nd at 169 points, and Kimi’s Mercedes counterpart, George Russell, in 3rd place with 160 points. (How Formula 1 scoring works will be listed at the bottom) Each Formula 1 team consists of 2 drivers, and the points of those drivers are combined throughout the season. This creates the battle for the Constructors’ Championship, which is awarded to the team with the most combined points at the end of the season. The Drivers’ Championship is awarded only to the driver with the most points at the end of the season. This creates an interesting dynamic in F1, where teams are working together to win the Constructors’ Championship but against one another to win the Drivers’ Championship. The team that wins the Constructors’ Championship receives the highest share of the prize money, roughly 14% of it, which equated to about $160,000,000 last season. The percentage of the share gets smaller and smaller as you move down the ladder, with 10th place (last) receiving about 6% of the share, equating to around $60,000,000 last season. However, the winner of the Drivers’ Championship does not receive a direct cash prize. Instead, they receive a contractual bonus from their team, and the biggest prize of all, the right to use the number “1” on their car. For the following season, the winner of the Drivers’ Championship can use the number “1” on their car, removing it from whoever had it the past season.

NHL
38-year old Brad Marchand of the Florida Panthers has announced he’s undergone last-minute surgery for a lingering lower-body injury. Marchand, who is heading into his 18th NHL season, stated he tried to rehabilitate and heal the injury without surgery, but ultimately decided to undergo the knife to address the issue. While an official recovery timeline hasn’t been stated, it is speculated that it’ll take around 2 months for the veteran to heal up, putting his availability for the start of the season in doubt.
