Arguably the greatest Basketball player of all time has found his new, and what he claims to be final, team. LeBron James, at 41 years old, has signed a 2-year, $8 million contract with a player option with the Philadelphia 76ers. A player option gives LeBron the power to opt in or out of his final year of the contract, meaning after this season, he can choose to stay with Philly, or he can become an Unrestricted Free Agent. Ultimately choosing Philly, LeBron was teasing the idea of joining Stephen Curry on the Golden State Warriors, heading back to the Miami Heat, or heading back to his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron did decide to go East, but not to any of the destinations speculated. In a post on X, LeBron James stated he “thought he was done when the season ended.” James went on to mention, “I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?” James also wrote, “ I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win…” After 23 seasons in the NBA, joining the league at 18 years old, and winning 4 Championships with 3 different teams, it will be interesting to see if LeBron James still has the fire in him to lead another championship-calibre team. If the 76ers go on to win a Championship, LeBron will become the first player in NBA history to win a Ring with 4 separate franchises. After the addition of 5x All-Star and NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown earlier this off-season, the 76ers are shaping up to be a real threat in the East. “Thank you, LA. Miami I’ll forever love and Northeast Ohio will always [be] home!” James ended his social media post with. This was an interesting decision that sent shockwaves through the NBA today.

Patrick Kane has signed a 2-year, $16 million deal to return to the Chicago Blackhawks. Kane played with the Blackhawks for 16 seasons, from 2007- 2022, winning 3 Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe trophy (Playoffs MVP), the Calder Trophy (Rookie of the Year), a Hart Memorial trophy (League MVP), an Art Ross Trophy (League leader in points), and a Ted Lindsay Award (League MVP voted by NHLPA members), during his time there. Now, at 37 years old, Patrick Kane will be uniting with the future face of the franchise, 21-year-old Connor Bedard. Connor Bedard took to social media, expressing how excited he is to join up with Patrick Kane, and stating he constantly watched highlight reels of Kane growing up, attempting to model his game after him—a very cool moment for the young star, and for the veteran returning to his old team.
Chicago Blackhawks veteran and former Team Captain Jonathan Toews is also rumoured to sign a one-day contract with the team to retire as a Blackhawk. Toews announced his retirement earlier this year, after returning for one season with the Winnipeg Jets, his hometown team. A classy move by the organization for one of the most respected players in the league.
