McLaren Racing is Heating Up & Wyndham Clark Strikes Again!

Wyndham Clark, the 32-year-old Colorado native, has claimed his 3rd PGA Tour victory of the year, marking his highest-win season yet. Clark edged out the victory over the World number 2 Rory McIlroy and fellow American Patrick Cantlay. Wyndham Clark opened the weekend with a bogey-free round 1 of 64 (-6), followed by another bogey-free 64 (-6), a R3 of 65 (-5), and finished it up on Sunday with a final round of 70 (E). This finished Clark at -17 for the weekend, which would be enough to claim his third win of the year, along with a hefty payday. Clark had a 5-stroke lead over McIlroy and Cantlay heading into Sunday’s final round, but proceeded to shoot +3 until the 16th hole, which erased that lead and allowed McIlroy to tie him at -14. However, Clark then went on to birdie 16, 17, and 18, clawing his way back down to even par, while McIlroy bogeyed the 18th and final hole. Patrick Cantlay shared the lead for a brief moment, until he double-bogeyed the 11th hole, dropping him back down the leaderboard. Cantlay took another bogey on the 15th, surely putting McIlroy in position for a 2nd place finish, until Cantlay proceeded to birdie the last 3 holes, giving him a final round of 68 (-2), with a final score of -14 for the weekend, and the solo second-place finish. McIlroy finished solo 3rd at -13, while Gary Woodland, Collin Morikawa, and Chris Gotterup all tied for 4th at -12. The final event of the 2026 FedEx Cup Playoffs begins today, Thursday, August 27th, with the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings battling it out for the 1st-place prize of $10,000,000. Veteran Rickie Fowler unfortunately fell outside of the top 30 rankings after the BMW Championship. Along with Fowler, Justin Thomas, Kurt Kitayama, Nicolai Højgaard, Jake Knapp, Sepp Straka, Ben Griffin, and Maverick McNealy are some of the notable names that did not make the top 30 this year and will be missing out on the Tour Championship. Alex Fitzpatrick, Min Woo Lee, Ryan Gerard, Alex Smalley, Kristoffer Reitan, and Ryan Fox (who came in at 30th place) are all making their first career Tour Championship appearances. Scottie Scheffler is the favourite to win this weekend at +310, with Rory McIlroy next up at +950, and last year's champion, Tommy Fleetwood, is at +2000 to defend his title.

McLaren Racing is beginning to heat up with Lando Norris taking back-to-back victories. After a 1st place finish at the Hungarian GP on July 26th, Lando Norris now has his second victory this season, with a win at the Dutch GP this past weekend. The McLaren driver finished 11.536 seconds ahead of 2nd-place Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes, who was the favourite heading into this GP. Lando Norris was a sizeable underdog heading into the race, sitting around +525 to win. George Russell placed 3rd this weekend, giving Mercedes a double-podium finish and a combined 33 points. Kimi Antonelli now has 10 podium finishes out of 12 races this season, and George Russell has 6 podiums. It was a disappointing hometown race for Max Verstappen this year, as he DNF’d on the first lap of the race. Thankfully, Max escaped the crash without sustaining any injuries. Verstappen was rounding a corner of the track when his wheels lost grip and then locked up, sending him straight into the wall and taking him out of the competition. After hitting the wall, Verstappen's car exploded across the track, causing the race to be red-flagged due to unsafe conditions while they cleaned the car up. The red flag lasted about 30 minutes before the drivers could return to the track and resume the race again. A red flag in Formula 1 is called when the conditions of the track are unsafe to continue. This could be due to debris spread out from crashes, heavy, thick rain, or any other dangerous situation making the track unsafe to continue. Once the conditions are safe, the drivers return to the starting grid (generally in the position they were in when the flag was called) and await the lights to go out and the race to resume! Up next, we have the Italian GP, taking place at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, on Sunday, September 6th, beginning at 6:00 AM PST. Max Verstappen was victorious last year at the Italian GP, but Red Bull seems to be in a much different and worse position this season. The early odds have Lando Norris as the favourite right now, sitting at +250, which would make it 3 straight for McLaren. George Russell is behind him at +287, with Lewis Hamilton, the veteran from Ferrari, at +800. The Drivers’ Championship leader, Kimi Antonelli, is +1000 to get back in the win column as of right now.

The NFL preseason injuries are showing no signs of slowing down, with 2 key players, one from the Raiders and one from the Bengals, seemingly going down at practice. Ashton Jeanty, the star 2nd-year running back from the Las Vegas Raiders, and Ja’Marr Chase, Wide receiver 1 for the Cincinnati Bengals and one of the best Wide Receivers in the league, have both gone down with leg injuries at team practice. While Jeanty and the Raiders haven’t publicly confirmed what the injury is, it’s speculated to be an ankle sprain that is putting his readiness for week 1 in serious doubt. Jeanty had to be helped off the field after going down awkwardly trying to catch a low pass. He couldn’t put any weight on his leg, and the “whole team took a knee,” said head coach Klint Kubiak. Raiders teammates and fans feared the worst for Jeanty, but thankfully, it sounds like it won’t be a season-ending injury. The Raiders are looking to turn this franchise around after adding first overall pick, Fernando Mendoza, the quarterback who led the Indiana Hoosiers to win the National Championship last year. Although without Jeanty in the backfield alongside him, they could be in for another lackluster season. Ja’Marr Chase, star wideout of the Bengals, was seen going down awkwardly and then limping around at practice. He was seen limping off the field after going down during an awkward catch attempt that got caught up with cornerback DJ Turner II. Chase was examined by the medical staff and returned to the sidelines for the duration of practice, but did not participate. When speaking to the media afterwards, he was in positive spirits, claiming he wanted to return to practice, but the team pulled him out to be cautious. Chase also said, “A little hyperextension, but other than that, I’m fine.” The Bengals have already confirmed that Chase will not be playing in their final preseason game against the Eagles, but the extent of his participation during practice for the remainder of training camp is still to be decided. It sounds like Chase should be a go for week 1 against Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it has not been confirmed. The Cleveland Browns and quarterback Deshaun Watson have been stirring up news headlines this past week, after he was named the starter for week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Watson, who had a terrible outing in their preseason game against the Bills, going 5/12 with 36 YDS and 1 INT, was rumored to be on the cut line from the Browns, but in a wild turn of events, is now QB1. Watson’s time in Cleveland has been nothing short of a disaster, from the injuries he’s suffered to the way he and the fans have interacted. When Watson took the field against the Bills, he was met with loud boos that echoed throughout the stadium from the home team crowd. “It has nothing to do about the performance. It's a little bit [more] personal than that. So I think it's a disrespectful thing,” Watson said to reporters after the game when asked about the boos. Watson, who signed a 5-year, $230,000,000, fully guaranteed contract with Cleveland back in March of 2022, has only played 19 games for the organization since. From serving an 11-game suspension for sexual assault and inappropriate conduct during massage therapy sessions to missing an entire season (and a half) for Achilles injury recovery, it is clear that Deshaun Watson is not a fan favourite in Cleveland. Watson did eventually walk back the comments he made after the Bills game, saying, “My emotions got the best of me. My comments [weren’t] intending to go at any of the fans around in the city. Because there have been a lot of great fans that have been supporting me." While some of the frustration Watson has is understandable, as this is the fanbase that cheered when he went down with a ruptured Achilles at a home game against the Bengals back in 2024, the relationship between Browns fans and Deshaun Watson continues to get worse. The Browns are heavily expected to cut the starting quarterback when his contract expires at the end of the 2026-2027 season.
In other NFL news, the league has announced it is ending the Pro Bowl All-Star Game and all corresponding skill events. 88 players will still receive the honorary Pro-Bowler award, but no games will take place from here on out. Pro-Bowlers will now instead be invited to an in-person celebration in Los Angeles in February. The Pro Bowl and All-Star Games, for that matter, have been going downhill for some time now. In 2023, the NFL switched the Pro Bowl to a flag football match, hoping it would spark some excitement, but just 3 years later, they are eliminating the event altogether. While the skills events were sometimes entertaining, I don’t think the entirety of this event will be very missed.
